NFL Dublin: Where to Stay for the Game of the Year

This summer, Dublin will make sporting history as it hosts its first ever NFL game in Ireland.

If you’re lucky to have a ticket in hand, you’re probably looking for accommodation — and nowhere is better suited than the Herbert Park Hotel & Park Residence in Ballsbridge. As one of the top-rated hotels in Ireland, we’re the ideal host for your NFL Dublin 2025 trip, offering the perfect blend of location, comfort, and atmosphere

Whether you’re a die-hard football fan, a curious staycationer, or simply looking for a unique way to see our country’s capital, we’re here to help you make the most of this unforgettable experience.

The NFL’s Irish debut

For the first time, the NFL is coming to Dublin on August 24th, 2025, and it’s not just another game — it’s an international event that will see the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Chicago Bears at the iconic Croke Park.

With London and Frankfurt already established NFL destinations, Dublin NFL 2025 is Ireland’s chance to shine on the global sports stage. Tickets are like gold dust with fans flying in from the U.S., Europe, and beyond to take part in this hotly anticipated debut from one of the world’s leading sporting organisations.

For American fans, it’s a unique opportunity to combine a love of football with a bucket-list trip to Ireland. For Irish locals, it’s a rare chance to experience the full NFL spectacle — live, loud, and in one of the most famous stadiums in Europe.

A historic show-down in hallowed grounds

What makes this extra special is that two beloved American teams will be going head to head in Croke Park, a venue steeped in history and a revered symbol of the Irish fighting spirit. Normally the home of Gaelic football and hurling, this atmospheric stadium has also played host to U2, Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen, and even Muhammad Ali, who fought Alvin "Blue" Lewis there in 1972.

Centrally located, Croke Park is a breeze to get to from Ballsbridge. If you’re staying at the Herbert Park Hotel & Park Residence, you can hop on the DART from Lansdowne to Connolly Station (15 minutes), or hail a cab from outside the door (about 20-25 minutes). It’s a real treat to stroll through Dublin on a game day — you can expect to mingle amongst a sea of international jerseys, local street-sellers, and boisterous fans. Give yourself enough time to enjoy a pint of the “black stuff” (Guinness) and soak up that uniquely Irish energy that turns any event into an epic celebration.

With a capacity of over 82,000, Croke Park is a place where sport and culture meet with pride and passion — making the Dublin NFL game one you won’t want to miss.

The perfect base in Ballsbridge

For NFL fans, the neighbourhood of Ballsbridge is ideal: It offers a leafy, peaceful enclave that’s close enough to be part of the action, but far enough to offer a relaxing place to unwind during pre- or post-game downtime.

With the rolling green grass of Herbert Park on our doorstep and the River Dodder providing gentle paths for walking, there’s plenty to do for guests who like to enjoy a taste of the countryside in the heart of the capital.

Plus, with many of Dublin’s best-known attractions and most beloved restaurants nearby, the Herbert Park Hotel & Park Residence is one of the best hotels in the city centre for visitors who want to combine comfort with convenience and a touch of luxury.

Our guests relish the opportunity to explore the city on foot, by bike, or on a bus, tram, taxi, or train and then retreat to one of the finest luxury hotels in Dublin to enjoy four-star dining and top-class service in the evening.

Exploring Dublin beyond the ballgame

If you’re travelling to see the Pittsburgh Steelers go head to head with the Chicago Bears, your NFL Dublin experience doesn’t have to start and end with kickoff. Make a weekend of it with some of these ideas for an extra-special stay in the city:

Soak up the atmosphere in local pubs: Dublin is home to more than 750 pubs, so you’ll never be far from a place to rest, watch some sports, enjoy a bite to eat, or just enjoy the stories, chats, and good-natured ribbing among the locals. Try traditional pubs like The Bridge 1859, co-owned by Irish rugby legends.

Relax in Herbert Park: Escape the crowds and shake off your hangover with a peaceful stroll through Herbert Park, just steps from our hotel. With 32 acres to explore, there’s plenty of room to throw around a ball if the NFL players  inspire you to try!

See the cultural hotspots: Even if you’re only in town for a few days, you can still catch some of these most unmissable experiences:

The Guinness Storehouse, where you can learn the story behind Ireland’s most famous drink.

Temple Bar, our iconic cultural quarter, packed with traditional pubs and lively music sessions.

Grafton Street shopping district, which features high-end brands and charming Irish boutiques.

No matter how you choose to spend your time in Dublin, the award-winning team at the Herbert Park Hotel & Park Residence is on hand to help with dining reservations, transport tips, and local insights.

Top tips for visiting NFL fans

Dublin is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe, offering everything the modern traveller could need. We asked our team what visiting NFL fans should bear in mind, and they had this advice to share:

Dress for changeable weather: It’s not unusual to experience all four seasons in a day in Ireland, even in September. Bring light layers, a rainproof jacket, and comfortable shoes for strolling (especially on game day, when cars can’t get very close to the stadium).

Take public transport: Dublin is very well connected by bus, train, and tram services — all payable with a Leap Visitor Card. Use our hotel’s Wi-Fi to download the TFI Live app for real-time travel information, Google Maps for offline navigation, and FREENOW for taxis (like Uber).

Talk to the locals: Irish people are famously friendly, and usually very happy to chat to tourists. Everyone speaks English — with a charming accent — and while tipping isn’t mandatory, 10% is usually appreciated by hard-working service staff.

Don’t be surprised if you make friends for life on this trip — here in Ireland, we tend to forge fast friendships and make lasting connections, even in a short space of time. Especially when there are sports involved!
