Herbert Park


Herbert Park

The 48 acre Herbert Park is right on our doorstep so is the perfect place for our guests to take in the stunning scenery and enjoy a leisurely stroll. A stroll through the park is a great way to clear your head and set you up for the day. If you have little ones, make the most of the park by visiting not one but two playgrounds or feed the ducks at the pond. There is also a Herbert Park Family Trail that the kids will just love and the adults just as much. The trail will introduce you to a selection of Ireland’s native trees. All have survived through invaders, famines, battles and storms so makes for a very interesting walk. If you like your sports then Herbert Park is right up your street. From 8 tennis courts to 3 football pitches, a bowling green, croquet lawn and a synthetic sports pitch, you will be in your element. If gardening is more your thing then you’ll be delighted to know there are some allotments, there really is something for everyone at Herbert Park. If you are visiting Herbert Park of a Sunday make sure you check out the Herbert Park Markets full of delicious food and fantastic atmosphere. Herbert Park is one of Dublin’s oldest and most popular parks so is definitely worth a visit. 

St Stephen's Green

St. Stephen's Green is a historic park, located in the centre of Dublin making it a very popular park and the ideal location for an enjoyable stroll. The beautiful greenery and flowers really make for an impressive walk in the heart of Dublin. St. Stephen's Green is just a 25 minute walk from the hotel and what better way to experience Dublin’s Fair city than by foot. St. Stephen's Green is a welcome bit of tranquillity in the city. Not only is the park a perfect spot for a bit of time out but also rich in historic heritage. Access to the green was restricted only to residents until 1877 when the parliament passed an act to reopen the park to the public. During the 1916 Rising the Irish citizen army established position in St. Stephen’s Green. There are markings around the park detailing facts of the Easter Rising making for a very interesting and educational walk. After your stroll why not visit the iconic Grafton Street only a stone’s throw away and shop till you drop. 

Bray to Greystones

Bray to Greystones is a truly spectacular walk. Jump on the DART, only 10 minutes’ walk from Herbert Park Hotel and take in the extraordinary scenic views of the East Coast. The Bray to Greystones walk makes for a great day out as you trail along the coastline. The views really are just breath-taking, especially half way through the walk where there is a panoramic view of Greystones. There are plenty of charming cafes and restaurants in Greystones so when you’ve completed the walk you can pat yourself on the back and refuel and relax. The walk takes about 2 hours and is suitable for all abilities so it is definitely one for all the family to enjoy. If you’re feeling energetic you can walk back to Bray or just hop back on the DART and take in the beautiful views along the way. It’s a good idea to check the DART times so you can plan your day with ease and aren’t left hanging around waiting for the next DART to arrive. 

Howth Cliff Walk

Howth Cliff Walk is definitely one for the bucket list. Not only do you get to enjoy a refreshing stroll cliffside but it also gives you the opportunity to take in the incredible views of Howth from a height. Look out for Lambay Island, Irelands Eye, Howth Castle, The National Transport Museum, the Martello Tower and the Bailey Lighthouse. If you’re into your wildlife then this walk is for you. Ireland’s Eye and its bird sanctuary will definitely tick all your boxes and if you have a good eye and you’re lucky you may even spot the seals and fish offshore. This walk takes about 2 hours starting at Howth DART station. It is a little bit challenging but good news, when you’ve reached the end you can enjoy Howth village and some delicious seafood. So jump on the DART at Landsdowne Road, only a 10 walk minute walk from Herbert Park Hotel and enjoy a great day out. 

Killiney Hill

Killiney Hill is a favourite walking trail for many and we can see why, the view is simply breath-taking. Killiney Hill is 153 metres high offering an amazing 360 view over Dublin. If you’re doing this walk as a family, the kids will be delighted to know there is a playground waiting for them at the bottom of the hill. The walk does involve a number of hills so isn’t a walk in the park but when you reach the top boy is it worth it for the unbelievable view. If you’re feeling a bit on the adventurous side you can climb over the top of the hill and down to the beach, a perfect way to spend a sunny day. So hop on the DART to Dalkey from Lansdowne Road, only 10 minutes’ walk from the Herbert Park Hotel and experience a killer view of Dublin. 

Dun Laoghaire Pier

Grab the DART at Lansdowne Road just 10 minutes from Herbert Park Hotel to Dún Laoghaire and experience the perfect walk for all the family, including the dog. The flat surface makes for an easy walk with fantastic views. Dún Laoghaire Pier is one of Dublin’s most popular walking experiences and there’s so many reasons why. The view of the sail boats and marina is just phenomenal while the coffee stands, food stalls and the famous Teddy’s ice-cream at the beginning and end of the pier are an added bonus. Breathe in the fresh sea breeze and take in the views of Dublin Bay, Howth Head and the town itself while enjoying a leisurely stroll with an ice cream in hand. If you head of a Sunday make sure you visit the nearby People’s Park set up with a number of stalls ranging from delicious food to pottery, plants and paintings.
