Our focus is to find the balance between understated comfort and sustainability. Herbert Park Hotel & Park Residence has been a pioneer Hotel in Ireland to start the journey towards the greener future. Since the day we opened our doors in 1996 we have been striving to minimize our impact on the environment. To date we are working on and have achieved:

Management

• Our hotel is currently working towards achieving the Eco-Label Award from the Green Hospitality programme.

Waste Minimisation & Management

• In 2017, we established our recycling centre, where we crush our glass, bale cardboard, and manage plastic recycling.

Encouraging eco-friendly practices, staff are urged to use their own water bottles or reusable cups, as we do not provide plastic cups.

• A vast majority (95%) of our goods are delivered in returnable packaging, minimizing waste.

• Our hotel kitchen operates waste-free, ensuring all materials are recyclable or compostable.

• Embracing technology, paper invoices are obsolete with the adoption of Smart Office software for online invoicing.

• New employees receive their handbooks via email to minimize ink and paper usage.

• Our self-catering studio apartments feature separate bins for general waste and recyclables, promoting eco-friendly practices among guests.

• Complementing our eco-conscious ethos, compostable takeaway cups are now standard at our hotel. Only available for takeaway hot drinks to be consumed outside the premises of the hotel.

• We have eliminated plastic straws over plastic alternatives.

• To mitigate plastic usage, we serve water in cartons instead of plastic bottles.

• Our toiletries supplier offers recyclable, vegan, and cruelty-free products, all of which are refillable. and all its packaging save 68% CO2

• Our Chemicals supplier, P&G ensure 90% of their products packaging are recyclable, and has plans to be Net Zero by 2040

• A whole Honeycomb is served during breakfast instead of honey packaged in glass jars, reducing waste.

Energy Efficiency & Carbon Minimisation

• Presently, our hotel rooms feature an all-electric Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heating and cooling system, prioritizing sustainable energy solutions and guest comfort.

• We are upgrading our ventilation plant with state-of-the-art Air Handling Units powered by heat pump technology.

• We have installed advanced control systems featuring inverter-driven plug fans for real-time adaptation to building loads.

• Our Park Lane Conference suite and Gym Area are undergoing heating strategy upgrades.

• We use VRF heat pump technology for efficient heating and cooling.

• We have installed individual control capabilities for each area to ensure energy efficiency and optimal comfort levels.

• We utilize a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generator, providing 189 kW of heating capacity and generating 125 kW of electrical power simultaneously.

• Corridor lighting has been upgraded to energy-efficient LED bulbs, reducing electricity consumption by 56%.

Water Minimisation and Management

• The shower heads in our studio apartments as well as hotel extension have been upgraded to more sustainable options, promising a potential 30% reduction in water wastage.

Sustainable Transport

• Pioneering environmental efforts, we became the first hotel in the country to install an electric car charging station.

• We incentivize sustainable transportation through initiatives like the Cycle to Work Scheme.
